Sunday 17 July, 2016 2.00pm-4.00pm  SOLD OUT                                                       Commissioned by the National Gallery – start at Conference Room 1 at the Sainsbury Wing.NG_webadvert

The flâneur, observer and stroller of the city streets, parks and gardens was depicted in the art of Manet and the Impressionists.

Hear a talk by Jo Rhymer from the National Gallery about representations of the flâneur in 19th-century French painting before experiencing the role of detached observer yourself, in a walk led by Mel Sutton and Andrew Stuck, from the Museum of Walking.

Discover how mindful walking can help us observe ourselves and the world around us, as we stroll around the nearby Victoria Embankment Gardens.

Beginning in the gallery with simple observation and rhythmic walking techniques, participants will be drawn outside to use their senses and discover how they could incorporate mindfulness in their everyday activities. This promises to be a fun and relaxing exploration of the art of walking mindfully, in homage to the flâneur.
