Date/Time
Date(s) - 17/03/2022
11:00 am - 1:00 pm

Run in support of the Urban Tree Festival, El Rhodes is offering a 2 hour on-line nature writing workshop, themed on “Healing Trees“, that is also the theme of the festival’s current writing competition.

Come and write about the things that inspire you in nature – whether it’s trees, the urban or rural landscape, or your relationship to either. No previous writing experience is necessary. Practical and interactive sessions. You don’t need to have access to the outdoors to be able to participate.

Although there will be a focus on “Healing Trees“, we’ll explore other aspects of the natural world too. Bring a willingness to try to get some words down about the world around you. There will be a chance to share your work if you want to and the group will be small to enable lots of participation.

Participants in this live event will qualify for a free submission (saving £6) to the 2022 Urban Tree Festival writing competition (deadline Monday 18 April). The event will be recorded and run on Monday 21st March at 7pm GMT and on Tuesday 29 March at 5pm BST as a pre-recorded event, should you be unable to make this live event.

We are offering a number of “up at dawn”  and “early bird” discounted tickets, and for those unable to genuinely afford the ticket price we have two subsidised tickets available, and two free places (Please get in touch if you qualify). Price of the workshop includes one free entries to the 2022 Urban Tree Festival writing competition (worth £6).

Who is El Rhodes?

El Rhodes is an archaeologist who lives in rural Wiltshire surrounded by thousands of trees. She writes a mixture of short fiction and creative non-fiction. In 2020 she was one of the winners of the Urban Tree Festival Flash Fiction competition.

Since then she’s won The Phare ‘Write Words’ Short Story prize and The Intrepid Times ‘Reunions’ Travel Writing award. She also writes a column for Spelt Magazine which celebrates and explores rural living in the 21st Century. Much of her work is rooted in a relationship with the natural world, both the glorious and the grim, and can be read in a range of anthologies and journals. In November 2021 her book ‘My Family And Other Folklore’ was longlisted for the Nan Shepherd Prize.
