The finale of the 2019 Urban Tree Festival will take place in the Harding Room at Bell House in Dulwich Village.

We are exploring ways to establish an award for writing about trees in urban settings – with nature writing proving to be as popular as ever, we are keen to harness the power of the written word to help celebrate the importance and value of trees in our towns and cities.

Urban Tree Talk – write about trees will include presentations and readings by leading nature writers including:

Peter Fiennes, author of ‘Oak and Ash and Thorn: the ancient woods and new forests of Britain

Paul Wood, author of ‘London is a Forest’ and ‘Street Trees of London: A field Guide to the Urban Forest‘.

Peter Coles, urban nature writer and photographer, champion of the mulberry, the creator of Morus Londinnium

Rachel Dowse, winner of the 2017 Association for the Study of Literature and the Environment, UK and Ireland (ASLE-UKI) Award

Ruth Pavey, author of “A Wood of One’s Own.”

Bell House is an educational centre that offers support outside the mainstream school curriculum, lifelong learning, short courses, exhibitions, talks and musical events. The house is a centre for educational needs with an emphasis on dyslexia support. We champion wider learning courses for all age groups, offering everyone the opportunity to unleash their creativity and engage with subjects they have never tried before. There are free events, and some bursary places places are available on all our courses. There are always opportunities to volunteer, and volunteer gardening sessions every Wednesday and Saturday mornings. Find out more here.

If you arrive early please glance around “Natural Selection” the sculpture and photography exhibition on show at Bell House as part of the Dulwich Festival Open Studios.
