Regrettably this event has been CANCELLED

Opening our new season of Urban Forest Explorations, we are delighted to welcome back Paul Wood, author of ‘London is a Forest’ (2019) and ‘London’s Street Trees‘ (one of the Guardian’s Nature Books of 2017) to entice you to Explore the Urban Forest in the City of London.

Street Trees in the City

The City is an unlikely place to look for street trees, but those that are here are of great interest. From sky-rocketing Dawn Redwoods around the Gherkin to Magnolias outside the Cheesegrater, surprises await around every corner. Being the epicentre of London with the greatest concentration of glass, steel and concrete, the effects of the urban heat island are felt most in this, the most densely developed corner of town. As well as the City proper, our route takes us into Shoreditch and the borough of Hackney, London’s very own urban arboretum. Hackney is famed for the fascinating and diverse trees found on its streets, and we will see just why that is.

Our route weaves through the City of London from St Paul’s to Shoreditch High Street – we are delighted to say we will be re-visiting the Brokedown Palace at 178 Shoreditch High St, Hackney, London E1 6HU as our end point for the walk.

Tickets are £18 only in advance (no booking fee is charged) – please do not just turn up as you will be turned away if you do not have a ticket.

Although being outdoors among trees is one of the healthiest things we can all do, with advice about ‘social distancing’ changing rapidly, should the government recommend or enforce the banning of small gatherings, we may regrettably have to cancel events at very short notice.   In that case we will issue ticket refunds.  In the mean time, we will continue to plan and deliver walks.

In the interest of others, we kindly request that you should not attend any of our events if you are feeling at all unwell or have recently returned from any high-risk country. The latest government advice also states anyone with a fever or persistent cough should self isolate.

You can purchase copies of Paul’s books on the walk – the great news is that he has a new edition of London Street Trees, with lots of extra details, photos, walking routes for publication in May, for which he may have advance copies.  He will also have copies of the Great Trees of London Map of which the publication is imminent.  No need to bring cash, as he has a nifty card reader!
