Regrettably this event has been CANCELLED

Opening our new season of Urban Forest Explorations, we are delighted to welcome back Paul Wood, author of ‘London is a Forest’ (2019) and ‘London’s Street Trees‘ (one of the Guardian’s Nature Books of 2017) to entice you to Explore the Urban Forest in Herne Hill.

Calling all blossom lovers! We have timed this walk to coincide with some of the most spectacular blossom to be seen in South London. A whole avenue of glorious Japanese Yoshino cherry trees will, with luck, be in full flower. This species is unusual in the UK, but is the most frequently seen Cherry variety found in Tokyo. But it doesn’t end there, further along our route we will see flowering Magnolia and other types of flowering street trees too. To add even more interest, this walk takes in two boroughs, Lambeth and Southwark, each with different planting policies meaning one side of the street may be planted with entirely different species to the other, so we can guarantee a superbly interesting and diverse range of species.

If you purchased a ticket, we will write to you about issuing a refund.  You will be given a password for this page, from which you will be able to download a route map and species list.

When offered last year, this walkshop sold out before the event ran – book early to avoid disappointment

Ticket prices: only in advance £18 (sales end midnight Sat 28 March) – please do not just turn up as you will be turned away if you do not have a ticket.

Although being outdoors among trees is one of the healthiest things we can all do, with advice about ‘social distancing’ changing rapidly, should the government recommend or enforce the banning of small gatherings, we may regrettably have to cancel events at very short notice.   In that case we will issue ticket refunds.  In the mean time, we will continue to plan and deliver walks.

In the interest of others, we kindly request that you should not attend any of our events if you are feeling at all unwell or have recently returned from any high-risk country. The latest government advice also states anyone with a fever or persistent cough should self isolate.

You can purchase copies of Paul’s books on the walk – the great news is that he has a new edition of London Street Trees, with lots of extra details, photos, walking routes for publication in May, for which he may have advance copies.  He will also have copies of the Great Trees of London Map of which the publication is imminent.  No need to bring cash, as he has a nifty card reader!
