Continuing the popular series of Stalking Trees walkshops, we are delighted to welcome Paul Wood, author of ‘London Street Trees‘ (Guardian Nature Books  of 2017) to entice you to Explore the Urban Forest in Chiswick.

After admiring the very fine, Plane tree lined Chiswick High Road, we will head off into the less-explored backstreets of this leafy West London enclave to discover a remarkable array of street trees. There are many well established and often exemplary specimens of less frequently encountered species including large Ginkgoes and Golden Rain Trees, a Copper Beech and an unusual River Birch.

We hope to see some signs of spring on our route too: we are likely to encounter early flowering cherries and swelling buds and catkins of other species. If you’re interested in winter tree IDs, this might be one of the last opportunities before the spring really starts to take hold!

We are delighted that local champion Dr. Karen Liebreich MBE will be joining the walkshop – she is co-founder of Abundance London. Abundance London is a small voluntary organisation. Its initial remit was to harvest fruit gluts from local trees. Over the past ten years we have worked with most local schools, set up school gardens, begun to look after small neglected public garden spaces around Chiswick. In 2013 we decided to tackle the ugly bridges at Turnham Green. Our original proposal involved living green walls, but when this was rejected we decided to press on regardless and modified our aims slightly. Small defiant acts of beauty.

We offered £2 cash back on the day for early bird registrations made before 28 February.
