Storytelling for places – #mylandmarks– is a practical hands on workshop on foot (a ‘walkshop’), along London’s famous The Strand and the alleys and passageways that link to it.  ‘#mylandmarks‘ are podcasts for places (known as ‘placecasts‘ that are hosted on innovative web app www.placecloud.io

On the walkshop you will learn how you can make your own #mylandmarks placecasts for your favourite places, telling and writing a story in your own words, recording it on your smartphone (or sound recorder), editing it, and posting it to the Placecloud app platform, so that anyone can listen to you telling your #mylandmarks placecast story.  From Sunday 1 September, as part of Sound Walk Sunday and for the whole of September, you can add as many #mylandmarks placecasts as you wish.

Placecloud accepts audio recordings via WhatsApp as well as WeTransfer.

Joining you on the walkshop will be a couple of local experts who will introduce you to some hidden haunts, to demonstrate how easy it is to publish a #mylandmarks -placecast, but we are really after your own stories of buildings, places or areas special to you. The walkshop is led by Andrew Stuck, producer of Sound Walk Sunday & Talking Walking podcaster and George Fort creator of www.placecloud.io

Where we will walk: We begin by the Coal Hole pub on the Strand, names after a famous music hall that now has vanished, and beside the stage door entrance to the Savoy Hotel.  Working alongside hotel historian Andy Williamson and music hall performer, Mr Tommy Parsons (aka Mitch Feral from Funny Story Productions) you will learn how to make a Placecast in situ.  Later we will walk along The Strand to where the Tivoli music hall once stood, and visit the alleyways and courtyards where William Blake once lived.

What you should bring: As well as weather-specific clothes and shoes, bring something to record with – either your smartphone, tablet or a sound recorder.  If you have a lapel microphone we recommend you bring that too (they are inexpensive and make for much better sound quality). We will provide a journal full of tips on storytelling and recording Placecasts.

Ticket prices £8 in on-line in advance, £6 Concession (bring Proof ID), £10 on the day
