Launching “Midweek Mulberries” – lunchtime walks led by Dr Peter Coles, from Morus Londinium.

This lunchtime walk not only reveals a half dozen hidden mulberry trees in the heart of London, but also links up some of the City’s best-kept secrets.  Starting at Farringdon station, we find the site of an 18th century Mulberry garden and Nine-pin bowling green.  With a nod at Hugh Myddleton’s New River, bringing water form the Lea River to Clerkenwell, we cross the (buried) Fleet River and walk to Gray’s Inn, with its beautiful “Walk garden” (and sprawling Catalpa Trees as well as mulberry), then to Lincoln’s Inn and down to the Strand, Middle Temple’s Fountain Court and finishing at a hidden mulberry in the Inner Temple gardens, once the Temple’s orchard.

Dr Peter Coles weaves a fascinating history of the mulberry, busting myths and letting the trees reveal their hidden stories.

Tickets in advance £12 / on the day £15 – accompanied children come free.
