Art Explorations are a series of walks investigating artworks displayed in outdoor settings in London, created and led by Gail Astbury, public art enthusiast as well as practitioner in her own right.

We’ve adapted to the times and are thrilled to be offering a guided public art tour for all to enjoy from home. The tour will be held on Zoom using Google Streetview, and will be recorded too. It will take approximately 60 minutes, and there will be a chance to ask questions during the tour.

For hundreds of years, London has been a glittering showcase for public art and communal expression. As the city continues to evolve, so too do the commissions and opportunities for contemporary artists from all walks of life to make work for both public and private urban developments. Each artwork along these routes form part of a puzzle that reveal the lives of the people and places who make up London’s network of villages. These guided virtual walking tours weave through and tell the oft untold stories of London’s richer and poorer communities.

Discover works by Tom Phillips, Yinka Shonibare, Grayson Perry, Patrick Heron, Edwin Russell and others all on public display as well as a potpourri  of building fascias and facades.

Where we will virtually walk: We begin by Westminster Roman Catholic Cathedral and take a peek inside.  We weave our way from there on a route parallel with busy Victoria Street, visiting Channel 4’s HQ before crossing Victoria Street to Christchurch Gardens, where there are three public artworks.  We turn towards Victoria station, passing the Bluecoat School and visiting the recently built Cardinal Place that is home to a number of artworks.

Bookings will close within 30 minutes of the start of the event – after booking, you will receive details of the Zoom meeting vie e mail – the email will include a link to the virtual tour (please check your junk mail folder, just in case…).

To book, there is no set ticket price on this Virtual Tour – we leave it up to your discretion (may we suggest £8-£12) – just use the PayPal Donate button below.  Please remember to also use the booking form at the bottom of the page.

Working for the NHS or as a key worker? – no need to make a donation as we are in your debt, just reserve a ticket below – please make sure you do as we won’t know to whom we need to send joining instructions.
